Description:

The University of Washington is participating in an operational test of an Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) that will transmit traffic and transit information over FM subcarrier to travelers. This information will be broadcast over the Seiko High Speed Data System (HSDS) via three common devices: a wrist watch, a car radio, and a small computer. The University's role in this project is the selection of the data elements, the determination of requirements for data flow, and the overall design of the system architecture. The ITS Research Program has already developed ways to fuse data from various sources for distribution to ATIS systems. This project will concentrate on improving the existing structure and formatting the data to fit the particular needs of the SWIFT project. The other members of the SWIFT consortium are listed above.
