Traffic Surveillance Video on the ITS Backbone

Description:

We will design and demonstrate a system which makes real-time traffice surveillance video images available on the ITS backbone. To accomplish this, we will: (1) leverage the existing Puget Sound regional ITS network, (2) build both a sever to interface video frames with the ITS backbone and an application capable of displaying video frames, and (3) demonstrate the viability of providing widely available real-time video surveillance frames using a client server paradigm. The video image server and the display client will be constructed in an open systems model that supports a distributed computing environment, is extensible to larger areas (i.e., other cities, agencies, and sensors), and allows new agencies to participate easily.

Once the server and display applications are developed and tested, they will be deployed on the network at the University of Washington and made freely accessible on the ITS backbone.
